According to Police, the teens were in a pickup truck that allegedly failed to completely stop at the intersection and was struck by an SUV. The passenger was pinned under the truck after it rolled. Police state they stopped a passing crane to help get the teen out from the truck. Both teens were taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident and wish the teens the fullest and speediest recovery possible.

Michigan car accident victims have a number of legal rights.  For this type of accident, the injured driver and passenger can  submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits.  No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.  The injured passenger can claim these benefits even if he did not have an automobile insurance policy.

In addition, the injury victims may also have claims for personal injuries against any driver determined to be at fault in this accident.  The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim.  Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Ottawa County Motorcycle Accident

An Ottawa County motorcycle accident has resulted in injuries for a 24-year old Kent County man.  Samuel Kurtz of Kent County was injured on October 19, 2008 while he was riding his motorcycle on 68th Avenue in Polkton Township when he attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him.  Unfortunately, this vehicle then made a left turn into the path of his motorcycle.  Samuel Kurtz was thrown from his motorcycle and subsequently transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with hip injuries and possible internal injuries.  He was listed in fair condition on Monday.  The driver of the car and her passenger were not injured.

This is a very unfortunate accident and I am very sorry to have read about it.  Too often, drivers seem to ignore motorcycles.  It seems like a lot of accidents could be prevented if everyone would keep a better look out for motorcycles.

My law firm represents motorcyclists who have been injured in accidents like this one.  If I were advising Samuel Kurtz, I would inform him that Michigan No Fault benefits are available because his accident involved a car.  Once he or a family member submits a No Fault claim, his No Fault insurance will pay for all his medical expenses, including his hospital bills and follow-up treatment.  He can also submit a wage loss claim if he has to miss work because of the accident.  Other No Fault benefits may also be available to him.  Finally, he should consult with an experienced Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer to determine whether he can sue the driver of the car or not.  Whether he has a valid lawsuit depends on the circumstances of the accident and the severity of his injuries, so he should definitely speak with an attorney to determine if he can sue and if he wants to sue.
