Glen Arbor Car Accident

A Glen Arbor car accident has resulted in the death of one man.  The accident occurred on November 30, 2008.  Police found Larry Thomas Higgins, 58, of Honor after he drove his vehicle off the road and it caught fire off Cheney Road in Glen Arbor Township.  Police are still investigating the accident, but medical examiners have indicated Larry Higgins died from a heart attack.  It is possible that the heart attack is what caused him to drive off the road.

I am very sorry this accident occurred.  I want to extend my sympathies to the family of Larry Higgins and wish them the best as they go through this difficult time.

In a single-vehicle accident like this, many people think they have no recourse and just have to bear the cost of the accident themselves.  This is simply not true.  Michigan No Fault accidents are available even when there was no other car involved in the accident.  In fact, one of the first things Larry Higgins’ family should do is file a claim with their No Fault insurance company.

A No Fault survivor loss claim will provide some assistance to the family as they cope with Larry Higgins’ death.  Survivor loss benefits will pay a portion of the funeral bill and will provide payments for loss of household services and loss of financial support.  If he incurred any medical expenses in connection with his death, the insurance policy will pay them as well.  I would encourage the family to speak with a lawyer, who can help them file their No Fault claim.

Lansing Car Accident Lawyers

A Lansing car accident has resulted in the death of a 67-year old man.  The accident occurred on December 6, 2008 at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Saginaw when one of the three vehicles involved ran a red light.  The man was taken to Sparrow Hospital, where he passed away on December 7, 2008.  Police are still investigating which car ran the red light.

This is a very tragic accident, and I am very sorry that it occurred.  My sympathies go out to the family of this man.

Even though this man’s family is grieving right now, I would strongly encourage them to submit this claim to their Michigan No Fault insurance company as quickly as possible.  The reason for this is because insurance companies and the No Fault Act set strict deadlines for submitting a claim and insurance companies will deny all or part of the coverage if people miss the deadlines.

A No Fault survivor loss claim will provide some assistance to the family as they cope with this man’s death.  Survivor loss benefits will pay a portion of the funeral bill and will provide payments for loss of household services and loss of financial support.

The family may also be able to file a lawsuit against the driver who ran the red light.  If it is determined that their decedent was free of fault and another driver was negligent, they could sue for damages not compensated by No Fault insurance.  A lawyer could evaluate their case and help them decide if they can sue, and a lawyer could also help file their No Fault claim.

Livingston County Car Accident Lawyers

A Livingston County car accident on I-96 near Fowlerville Road has resulted in multiple injuries.  The accident occurred on November 9, 2008 as a car driven by a 66-year old driver from Grand Rapids struck a car driven by a 17-year old from Waterford.  After this contact, the Grand Rapids driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, went into the median, and rolled over.  The occupants of this vehicle were taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for treatment on undisclosed injuries.

This sounds like it was a very serious accident.  I am very sorry it happened and I hope everyone is recovering from their injuries.

My law firm represents people injured in car accidents.  Many of the people I represent know they should submit a claim like this to their Michigan No Fault insurance company but often, they do not know all the different benefits they qualify for.  No Fault insurance pays a variety of benefits including medical expenses, lost wages, and attendant care, but there are other benefits as well, such as household replacement services, medical transportation benefits, and others.  The car accident lawyers at my law firm would be happy to review your No Fault claim before you submit it to your insurance company to ensure you are claiming every benefit you are entitled to.

In addition to No Fault benefits, people who have been killed or seriously injured in car accidents may be able to sue a negligent driver.  In an accident like this, many people do not know whether the passengers can sue the driver.  In Michigan, passengers can sue their own drivers for negligence, even if they are friends or family members.  People are sometimes hesitant to sue someone they know but I always explain to them that the lawsuit is really against the drivers’ insurance company.

East Lansing Accident Kills Barber, Injures Wife

I read a tragic news report of an fatal Michigan truck accident that took the life of a popular Adrian, Michigan barber and seriously injured his wife.  Police report that James Jasmine and his wife, Karen Jasmine, were involved in an accident on U.S. 127 in Lansing last Friday afternoon when an oil tanker overturned and landed on their SUV.  Mr. Jasmine was killed and his wife suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.  Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

My sincerest sympathies go out to the Jasmine family and I wish a speedy recovery for Ms. Jasmine.

These unfortunate family tragedies in car and truck seem to be occurring with greater frequency.  It is important to learn the reasons for the accident and then take measures to reduce the likelihood of it happening again in the future.  My firm handles a number of these cases and we start our investigation of the accident immediately so that we can locate all witnesses and preserve physical evidence to prove our clients’ case.

In many of these cases, the oil tanker company or other big trucking company will send their investigators out immediately to begin their “investigation.”  Essentially, they are trying to build a case against the victims of the accident and blame fault on the victims, with the hopes of avoiding a significant civil lawsuit.  Ms. Jasmine can file a claim against the trucking company for her own injuries and also for the loss of her husband, a claim that can be shared by other family members.  This is known as a Michigan Wrongful Death suit.  There are also claims that can be brought under the Michigan No-Fault Insurance laws for both victims.
