Livingston County Truck Accident Lawyers

A Livingston County truck accident closed U.S. 23 for over an hour and sent one man to the hospital.  The accident occurred on January 26, 2009 on southbound U.S. 23 when a Howell man was rear-ended by a semi truck in Green Oak Township.  The semi then went to the right shoulder of the road and jackknifed before striking the guardrail and finally coming to a stop in a northbound lane.  The semi hit 6 vehicles and sent one Howell man to the hospital.  There was no report on his condition.

I am very sorry this accident occurred.  I hope that the injured man is able to make a full and speedy recovery.

When someone has been injured in a truck accident, there are usually at least two possible claims that arise out of the accident.  First anyone injured should file a claim for Michigan No Fault car insurance benefits.  No Fault insurance will pay for all reasonable medical expenses, a portion of the lost wages, and provide a payment for any chores around the house that the victim normally did prior to the accident.  Other benefits are also available for more seriously injured people.

Second, when a person suffers severe injuries because of another driver’s negligence, that person may be able to file a lawsuit against the other driver.  This lawsuit will allow the accident victim to collect additional damages from the other driver, or in a case like this one, the truck driver’s employer.  Accident victims can sue only when the injuries are very severe, so anyone injured in an accident should discuss their injuries and the circumstances of the accident with a lawyer as soon as they can.

Ogemaw County Truck Accident | Ann Arbor Truck Accident Lawyers

A young boy was killed and several members of his family injured in an Ogemaw County truck accident.  The accident occurred near Rose City on November 24, 2008 when icy roads on M-33 caused the father of the family to lose control of his vehicle and slide into the next lane.  A semi truck hit the vehicle broadside.  The 10-year old boy was killed, his 6-year old sister and their father are in serious condition, and the mother and a third child were treated for less severe injuries.  The family was returning from a church retreat to their home in Ann Arbor.

This accident is a true tragedy, especially because of what has happened to the family’s children.  I want to extend my sympathies to this family.

In an accident like this, the family should speak with a lawyer as soon as possible.  That way they can get help submitting claims to their No Fault insurance company to get the father and daughter’s medical expenses paid, to get survivor loss benefits for the boy, and to get lost wages to maintain their standard of living.  The quicker they submit these claims, the sooner they will be able to get their high medical bills, funeral, and other expenses paid for.

In addition, a lawyer could investigate this accident and help determine who was at fault for the accident.  Although the family will be able to collect No Fault benefits regardless of fault, they may be able to sue the truck driver or his employer for additional damages since their son died and it is likely that the father and daughter are seriously hurt.  This lawsuit would be one for negligence so they could only bring it if it is determined they were not at fault in the accident.

Detroit Truck Accident

A fatal Detroit truck accident may have been caused by the driver having a heart attack immediately before the crash.  The accident occurred November 20, 2008 on Mt. Elliot between Caniff and Huber when the semi truck veered off the road and crashed into several utility polls.  The truck driver died in the accident, but no one else was hurt.  Mt. Elliot was closed for several hours because of the downed power lines.

I am very sorry this accident occurred.  My sympathies go out to this man’s family and friends.  Fortunately, no one else was injured in this accident.

The driver’s family must be going through a very hard time right now, especially since this accident happened so close to the holidays.  They should speak with a lawyer to determine how they can get some support for the next several months and years.  The reason they should speak with a lawyer is that depending on the circumstances of this accident, it might fall under the No Fault Act or the Workers’ Compensation laws.  Both regulatory schemes will provide them with a portion of the driver’s lost wages and other benefits as well, but it would be a real shame if they filed for the wrong benefits and then missed the deadline to file for the other benefits while waiting for the insurance companies to figure out who is supposed to pay.

Allegan County Truck Accident

An Allegan County truck accident has left an area pastor dead.  The accident occurred on November 21, 2008, at the intersection of 142nd Avenue and 38th Street in Overisel Township when the minivan failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a tractor trailer semi truck.  Rev. Jeff Voorhees, pastor from Drenthe Christian Reformed Church, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while the truck driver was trapped inside his truck, which caught on fire due to the accident, but made it out with minor burns and bruises.  Slick roads due to snow appear to be the main cause of the accident.

It is always sad when someone dies in a car accident, but it is especially devastating when a pillar of the community is taken.  I extend my sympathies to the Voorhees family and to the members of Drenthe Christian Reformed Church.

Michigan No Fault insurance can greatly assist a family at a time like this.  A No Fault survivor loss claim can provide this man’s estate with assistance in paying for the funeral and can provide his family with payments for loss of support, such as lost wages, and payments for loss of the value of his contribution to the chores of the household.  An experienced Michigan truck accident lawyer can help assemble a No Fault claim and ensure the family can worry about more important things while still getting the full amount of benefits.

Detroit Truck Accident

A Detroit truck accident left a man dead and several power lines downed on November 20, 2008.  The accident occurred on Mount Elliot near Edwin on Detroit’s East Side when a semi truck started swerving and took out several power lines before crashing through a fence and coming to a stop in someone’s yard.  It is unclear what caused the accident although it is possible the truck driver may have been suffering from a medical condition.

I am very sorry this accident occurred.  I want to extend my sympathies to this driver’s family, who must be going through a very difficult time right now.

Even though this accident appears to have been the truck driver’s fault, his family can still submit a survivor loss claim to their No Fault insurance company.  Survivor loss benefits include a payment for part of the funeral bill, and payments for loss of support and loss of household services.  It would be best for the family to submit their No Fault claim quickly so they are not denied coverage for failing to submit a claim within the limitations period imposed by Michigan law.  An experienced Michigan truck accident attorney can help them review their claim and ensure they have all the necessary documents to support the claim.
