Sault Pedestrian Killed by a Vehicle

I read tragic story in the paper about a Sault pedestrian Killed by a Vehicle Saturday morning in Sault Ste. Marie. According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s office, Angela Peltier was walking north of the Davitt Street intersection when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man. She was taken to War Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead from her serious injuries. Police are still investigating and are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and wish my most heart-felt condolences to the family of Angela Peltier for their loss.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of Angela Peltier may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, the family of the deceased victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased victims may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused this accident. At the very least, the surviving family should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Ogemaw County Car Accident

An Ogemaw County car accident has resulted in the death of a woman.  Shannon Bentley, 25, of Sault Ste. Marie was tragically killed after experiencing engine trouble on I-75.  Another driver struck her car, which had only been partially pulled over onto the shoulder.  This driver, a 60-year old Tecumseh man, was taken to St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw and underwent surgery on Monday.  He remains in critical condition.

This is a very tragic accident.  My sympathies go out to the Bentley family and their friends.  I also hope that the other driver is able to experience a full recovery.

My law firm represents people involved in car accidents.  Quite often, people are uncertain of their rights following a car accident like this one.  Both drivers have claims for No Fault insurance, which will pay for all of the male driver’s medical expenses and any lost wages as well as for a portion of the funeral expenses for Shannon Bentley.  In addition, the driver who is determined to be free of fault may have a legal claim against the at-fault driver depending on the severity of his or her injuries.  Since Ms. Bentley died, her injuries are clearly sufficiently severe for her to have a claim, but it would depend on how severe the other driver was injured to determine if he would have a claim.
