Kalamazoo School Bus Accident

There was a story in the news today about a Kalamazoo school bus accident. The accident took place on Monday morning, May 24th at the intersection of Nazareth and Gull Roads. A man driving a mini-van struck the back end of a Portage School bus after failing to stop at a red light. The driver of the mini-van along with the school bus driver suffer injuries. Both injured victims were transported to Bronson emergency. No one on board the bus suffered injuries.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident and hope both individuals recover form the accident without any permanent damage.

Our Michigan accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of Michigan school bus accident, the both victims could make a claim for Michigan no-fault benefits even if they did not own a car or have a no-fault benefit insurance policy. This includes payment of medical expenses, prescription costs, and wage and income loss benefits if there are any.

Additionally, if the driver of the min-van is found at fault, the school bus driver may also be able to make a claim for personal injuries against the negligent driver. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement.

Fatal Sault Ste. Marie Car Accident

There was a tragic story in the paper today about an elderly man killed in a fatal Sault Ste. Marie Car accident on January 10th in Chippewa county. According to the police, the elderly man was turning left in his Ford Escort from Portage Street onto Bingham when his vehicle was allegedly struck by a pickup truck heading east. The pick-up truck then hit a third vehicle stopped on Bingham. The 85-year-old man was rushed to War Memorial Hospital where he died from his serious injuries. Police are still investigating this accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and give my most sincere condolences and best wishes to the family of the deceased man for their loss.

Motocyclists injured in accidents in MIchigan do have legal rights.  Because this motorcycle accident involved contact with another motor vehicle, the passenger is eligible for Michigan No-Fault Insurance benefits.  This provides for payment of medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care services, and other benefits.

Family members of a motorcyclist in a fatal accident may also may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits.  This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

The no-fault insurance laws are complex and confusing and it is imperative that the injury victims and their family members contact a Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer as soon as possible so that the claims process can be started.  There are strict deadlines for filing claims and submitting bills and if not met, the insurance company may be legally entitled to refuse payment for these claims.

For a complete explanation of the rights of injured bikers in Michigan, you should request our FREE BOOK, “The Ultimate Michigan Motorcycle Accident Handbook.” Furthermore, the surviving family members may have a claim against the driver of the motor vehicle for wrongful death of the biker.
