St. Joseph County Car Accident Fatality

A Concord woman was killed in a St. Joseph County Car Accident in Mendon Township on May 20th. According to police, Marian Glass, 80, was driving her vehicle on Silver Street in Mendon Township when a car, driven by a Three Rivers man, allegedly crossed the center line and collided with her.  Ms. Glass was airlifted to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo where she subsequently died.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic and senseless accident.  I offer my condolences to the family of the Marian Glass for their loss.

Michigan car accident victims have a number of legal rights.  For this type of accident, the family members may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits.  This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

Furthermore, the family members may have a claim for wrongful death against the driver of the other vehicle. At the very least, the surviving family should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.  The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Saginaw County Truck Accident

A Saginaw County truck accident has resulted in the tragic deaths of an 8-year old girl and a 68-year old man.  Lyvia Dickinson of Owosso was killed and her grandmother was injured in a pickup truck when it was involved in an accident on M-57, also known as Peet Road, near East and Sheridan Roads in Maple Grove Township.  The driver of the truck was also killed.  The two-vehicle accident occurred when one of the vehicles crossed the center line and hit the other head on.  The accident is still being investigated and, over than Lyvia Dickinson, the names of the people involved have not yet been released.

This is a very tragic accident, especially because Lyvia Dickinson is so young.  I want to extend my sympathies to her family and the driver’s family.  I also wish Lyvia’s grandmother is able to experience a full recovery.

In an accident like this, the families of the two deceased and the injured grandmother should submit a claim for Michigan No Fault benefits.  No Fault insurance benefits will pay for all medical expenses incurred, and a No Fault survivor loss claim will provide money for a funeral.  These benefits are available even though the cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the families should act quickly because there are deadlines to submit a claim imposed by Michigan law and insurance policies.  These deadlines are strictly enforced.

In addition, once it is determined who was at fault in the accident, anyone killed or seriously injured as a result of that person’s negligence may be able to sue that driver.  The Dickinson family or anyone else considering a lawsuit should obtain a copy of the police report and then bring it with them when they speak to a Michigan car accident lawyer.
