Roosevelt Park Car Accident | Hit and Run

A Roosevelt Park car accident has severely injured a Muskegon man.  Earl Bernard Martin, 24, was hit by a car that fled the scene on February 11, 2009.  Earl Martin was sitting outside a bar waiting for a ride when a car narrowly avoided hitting him.  The driver of this car pulled over to try to help him, but a second car ran over both of his legs, fracturing them, before the driver could assist.  The second driver then drove off without stopping.

I hope that Earl Martin is able to recover fully from this accident.  I simply cannot believe that someone would run over both this young man’s legs and not even check to see if he needed help.  Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, and I hope this driver is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

When a pedestrian is hit by a car, the pedestrian can submit a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance.  For an accident like this, No Fault insurance will pay medical expenses including hospital bills and expenses for follow-up treatment.  It will also pay wage loss benefits and other benefits if they are warranted by the victim’s injuries.

If the pedestrian is severely injured, he may be able to file a lawsuit against the driver, if the driver is identified.  Even if the driver is not identified, it may still be possible to collect similar damages if the accident victim or someone he lives with has uninsured motorist coverage.

Norton Shores Car Accident

A Norton Shores car accident has resulted in the tragic death of a pregnant pedestrian.  Amanda Carlisle, 27, and a friend were crossing Seaway Drive at Norton Avenue at a traffic light on November 3, 2008.  Although they started crossing the street when the light was red, witnesses stated that it changed to green while they were in the median.  Amanda Carlisle was struck by an SUV and pronounced dead at Hackley Hospital.

This is a very tragic accident, and I am very sorry that it occurred.  My sympathies go out to Amanda Carlisle’s family.

Although this will not bring Amanda back, the Carlisle family should submit a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance as quickly as they can.  No Fault benefits will cover the cost of her medical bills and help the family pay for a portion of the funeral.  No Fault benefits will also provide payments for a portion of Amanda Carlisle’s lost wages if she was working or seeking work at the time of the accident.  In addition, her family is likely able to sue the driver of the SUV for wrongful death.  The family should consult with a lawyer to ensure they are making all the proper claims for their No Fault benefits and to determine if they want to pursue a lawsuit.

Norton Shores Motorcycle Accident

The Norton Shores Fire Marshall was injured in a motorcycle accident.  Norm Hosko is in critical condition after an accident that occurred as he was riding on M-37 north of Baldwin Road.  Norm Hosko was riding behind a trailer and collided with it when the vehicle pulling the trailer suddenly slowed down.  It appears that no one else was injured.

I am very sorry to have read about this accident.  I hope that Norm Hosko is able to have a speedy and complete recovery.

Because this accident involved a car, Michigan No Fault benefits are available to pay for Norm Hosko’s medical expenses and lost wages if he has to miss work because of the accident.  Other benefits, including household replacement services and attendant care, may also be available.  Norm Hosko or a member of his family should submit a claim for Michigan No Fault benefits quickly to avoid missing the strict deadlines set by Michigan law, which could result in a loss of benefits.
