Lansing Truck Accident

A Lansing truck accident has left one man dead and four men with minor injuries.  Alfredo Moncada Jr., 70, of Lansing was killed in a collision with a truck that occurred on November 2, 2008 at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Saginaw Street.  Four men from Manistique, all in their 20’s, were in the truck and suffered minor injuries.  The causes of the accident are still under investigation and no determination has been made as to fault.

This is a tragic accident and I want to extend my sympathies to the Moncada family.  In addition, I hope that all four men are able to recover fully from their injuries.

All of the men involved in this accident can receive Michigan No Fault insurance benefits.  No Fault benefits will cover the cost of hospital bills and other medical expenses.  No Fault benefits will also pay a portion of wages lost if anyone must miss work because of their injuries.  A No Fault survivor loss claim will assist the Moncada family in paying for the funeral.  Other benefits may be available as well, depending on a variety of factors.  The people who were free of fault may also be able to sue the negligent driver.  The best way to determine exactly what rights you have following a car accident is to speak with a lawyer.

Cohoctah Township Truck Accident

A Cohoctah Township car accident has left a Howell teen with injuries.  Karl Shelton was driving a pickup truck on Antcliff Road near Steinacker Road on October 24, 2008 when his truck left the roadway and crashed into a tree.  According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, the truck was loaded with scrap iron, which was thrown through the back window and front windshield.  Fortunately, none of the iron hit Karl Shelton.  Karl Shelton suffered a broken leg and a concussion, but he is listed as in good condition at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

This is a very sad accident, especially since Karl Shelton is only 17.  The best thing that can be said is that he is very lucky that none of the iron hit him.  I hope he will recover completely.

Even Karl Shelton was the only driver involved in the accident, he is still eligible for Michigan No Fault benefits.  No Fault benefits are available even if the injured driver was responsible for the accident.  By submitting a claim to his No Fault insurance provider, Karl Shelton would receive payment of all his medical bills, a portion of wages lost if he has to miss work, and possibly other benefits as well.

Lansing Car Accident

A student was injured in a Lansing car accident yesterday.  The child suffered minor injures near Riddle Elementary School from a car accident involving a car and a Consumers Energy truck.  The accident occurred at the intersection of Allegan and Huron streets.  The child was taken to Sparrow Hospital for precautionary reasons.

This is a very unfortunate accident.  I hope this child is able to experience a full and fast recovery.

My law firm frequently represents children injured in car accidents.  In an accident like this one, the child’s family should submit a claim for Michigan No Fault benefits to pay for the child’s medical expenses.  Although the initial reports made it sound like the student’s injuries were minor, if after examination by a doctor more serious injuries come to light, the child will qualify for additional benefits from the No Fault insurance policy.  In addition, if the child’s injuries were very severe, the family may be able to pursue a legal claim against the driver who was at fault in this accident.

Lansing Motorcycle Accident with SUV Injures Biker

A biker was injured in a Lansing motorcyle accident with a SUV last week.  The accident occurred when the SUV pulled out in front of the motorcycle and hit it.  The driver of the SUV was fine, but the motorcyclist was in serious but stable condition.

This is a tragic accident which could have been avoided if the driver of the SUV was more aware of the surroundings including other cars and motorcycles on the road.  I hope the motorcyclist has a full and speedy recovery.

Even though the motorcyclist was not driving a car, he is still entitled to Michigan No Fault benefits which include payment of all hospital bills and medical expenses as well as additional benefits depending on the severity of her injuries.  These benefits could include payment for household chores that he can no longer do for himself and for any care or supervision of the injured driver that is required as a result of the accident.  Finally, if he has to miss work because of injuries suffered in this car accident, his No Fault insurance will pay benefits for his lost wages.

The motorcyclist may also have claims for their personal injuries suffered in the accident.  If, as sounds likely, he is determined to be free of fault, he will also have a claim against the negligent driver.
