Alto Train Accident Kills Pedestrian

A Alto train accident killed a Kentwood man who was walking on the tracks.  Although the train conductor saw a man on the tracks, the train did not stop and the man was killed on Harrison Road near 60th Street in Alto.

This is a truly senseless loss and my sympathies go out to the family of the deceased.

My firm represents injured victims of accidents such as this one.  When someone has been injured or killed because of the negligence of another person, the injured person’s estate or their family has a claim for damages against the negligent party.  Here, the family may have a claim for wrongful death if this man’s death occurred as a result of negligence.

In a wrongful death suit, damages could include loss of financial support, payable to anyone who depended on his income for support.  A wrongful death claim could also include damages for loss of companionship, payable to his family.  Damages for wrongful death could also include a portion of the funeral expenses.

Kent County Car Accident Injures Four

Four people were injured in a Kent County car accident today at the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Myers Lake Avenue near Rockford.  It is unclear how serious the injuries are and the causes of the accident are still being investigated.

I hope the injured people have a full and speedy recovery and I wish them the best of health.  I represent victims of car accidents and know that even any car accident has the potential to seriously injure the people involved.

Even though there has been no determination of who is at fault, the drivers and passengers involved are entitled to No Fault benefits, which include payment of all hospital bills and medical expenses as well as additional benefits depending on the severity of each person’s injuries.  These benefits could include payment for household chores that the injured person can no longer do for himself or herself and for any care or supervision of the injured person that is required as a result of the accident.  Finally, if anyone has to miss work because of injuries suffered in this car accident, their No Fault insurance will pay benefits for their lost wages.

The injury victims may also have claims for their personal injuries suffered in the accident.  The driver who was determined to be free of fault would also have a claim against the negligent driver.

Kent County Fatal Car Accident

Police have charged Richard Hill from Greenville, Michigan with felony drunk driving charges related to the Sunday night car accident that killed ten year old April Kirtley and seriously injured her father.  This is apparently the third time Richard Hill has been involved with a drunk driving incident.  The felony charges carry up to 15 years in prison.

This is the worst type of tragedy and truly a senseless loss.  If the allegations prove true, it is clear Richard Hill had no regard to the life and safety of others and chose to get behind the wheel of his car after consuming alcohol.  The maxium sentence does not seem to give justice to this incident.

My firm frequently sues drunk drivers who injure or kill others and quite often these are repeat offenders.  When we get hired for these cases, we immediatlely investigate all possible claims that can be brought for the injury victims and their families.  These include claims against the drunk driver, the owner of the car, and many times the establishment that sold the liquor before the accident.  There also many insurance claims that can be brought by the accident victims.  The family can also file a Wrongful Death Case related to the loss of their daughter.
