Detroit Car Accident Lawyer | I-96 Car Accident

A fatal Detroit car accident occurred on I-96 in Detroit on October 30, 2008.  The accident occurred near the I-96/I-94 interchange when a minivan rear-ended a milk tanker.  A third vehicle then rear-ended the minivan, killing the minivan driver.  Unfortunately, no other details about the crash are available.

This is a very tragic accident and I am sorry that it occurred.  I want to extend my sympathies to the minivan driver’s family.

In an accident like this one, many times people do not know what to do.  They may not realize that they can submit a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance benefits regardless of who was at fault in the accident.  For the family of the minivan driver, a No Fault survivor loss claim can provide them with money for the funeral, part of the lost wages caused by the driver’s death, and payment for all medical expenses incurred.  In addition, depending on how the accident occurred, the family may be able to bring a lawsuit against either the milk tanker’s driver or the driver of the third vehicle.  By speaking with an experienced Michigan car accident lawyer, they could determine exactly what they want to do.

Ann Arbor Truck Crashes Closes I-94

Two semi truck crashes west of Ann Arbor closed down I-94 for most of Tuesday.  The first crash involved three semis.  A semi truck heading east in Lima Township crossed the grass median and collided with another semi.  This second semi, driven by a man from North Adams, south of Jackson, hit a third semi.  There was an explosion which severely damaged the first two trucks and killed their drivers.  The driver of the third truck was transported to University of Michigan Hospital where he was in stable conditions with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.  I-94 was closed in both directions for the morning rush hour and the eastbound lanes remained closed until after 5 p.m. so police could clear the accident and investigate its causes.  The eastbound lanes were then closed after being open for little more than an hour because of a second accident, which again involved a semi.  No one was injured in this second accident.

This is a horrific tragedy.  I feel nothing but sympathy for the families of the two drivers who were killed.  And I hope the third driver has a full recovery.  It is very fortunate that no one was injured in the second accident.

My law firm handles car accident cases such as this one.  While these tragedies are always extremely difficult to the families, insurance companies usually have little sympathy for the victims of such accidents.  It will be important for the injured driver and the families of the deceased drivers to determine what kind of insurance benefits are available to them and to quickly make a claim for the proper benefits.  They will have to assemble all appropriate documentation within strict time limits or face the prospect of losing benefits.

In an accident like this one, the drivers may have No Fault insurance claims, which would pay for all medical expenses, a portion of lost wages, and a portion of funeral expenses.  The drivers who were not at fault may also have a claim for their injuries against the driver who was at fault.  The best way to determine what claims are available to you if you have been in an accident is to consult with an experienced lawyer.
