Gladwin County Drunk Driving Accident

There was a story in the paper about an Amish man seriously injured in a Gladwin County drunk driving accident on February 14th in Beaverton Township. According to police, a 23-year-old Amish man and two others were traveling in a buggy on South Bard Road when the buggy was allegedly struck by a pick-up truck driven by an allegedly drunk Coleman man. The 23-year-old Amish man was taken to Saginaw for treatment of his serious injuries. The two other buggy passengers were treated on the scene for minor injuries. Police are still investigating this accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident and hope that the Amish man recovers from this accident without any permanent injuries or deficits.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the injured Amish can submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits. No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident. The injured parties can claim these benefits even if they did not have a Michigan automobile insurance policy.

In addition, the car accident injury victims may also have claims for personal injuries against any driver determined to be at fault in this auto accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case. In this lawsuit, the injured victims can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. Another possible claim for anyone injured by the alleged drunk driver would be a potential Michigan dram shop case against the seller or furnisher of the alcohol before the accident. At the very least, they should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victims with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Gladwin County Car Accident Kills Pedestrian

A Gladwin County car accident resulted in the death of a young girl who was walking along M-18 with several friends.  The accident occurred on November 21, 2008 near Schmidt Road in Gladwin Township.  The accident is still under investigation.

An accident like this one is truly tragic, especially because the victim is so young.  I want to extend my sympathies to her family and to her friends who were with her when the accident occurred.

The girl’s family should file a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance.  A No Fault survivor loss claim will give the family money for the funeral and possibly payments for household services, which will help shield the family from this unexpected loss somewhat.  They should also strongly consider filing a lawsuit against the negligent driver who hit this girl.  A lawsuit for wrongful death could allow them to collect additional compensation for their loss.  I would encourage them to speak with a lawyer.
