According to Police, the teens were in a pickup truck that allegedly failed to completely stop at the intersection and was struck by an SUV. The passenger was pinned under the truck after it rolled. Police state they stopped a passing crane to help get the teen out from the truck. Both teens were taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident and wish the teens the fullest and speediest recovery possible.

Michigan car accident victims have a number of legal rights.  For this type of accident, the injured driver and passenger can  submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits.  No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.  The injured passenger can claim these benefits even if he did not have an automobile insurance policy.

In addition, the injury victims may also have claims for personal injuries against any driver determined to be at fault in this accident.  The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim.  Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Georgetown Township Car Accident

A Georgetown Township car accident has resulted in injuries and one arrest.  Grand Rapids police arrested 24-year old man who they say fled the scene following a hit and run car accident on 48th Avenue near New Holland Street on October 30, 2008.  The accident occurred when this man allegedly crossed the centerline on 48th Avenue and struck a car driven by Nicole Scott, 23, of Hudsonville.  She was not hurt, but her passenger, Minday Vanderlaan, 22, was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment.  She is in stable condition.

This is a totally unnecessary accident and I am sorry it happened.  I hope that Minday Vanderlaan has a full recovery.

Minday Vanderlaan will rack up large medical bills even if her injuries are very severe.  She may incur additional costs if she has to miss work because of this accident.  Fortunately, both of these expenses are covered by her Michigan No Fault insurance.  She can get all of her medical bills paid for and can receive a portion of her lost wages by submitting a No Fault insurance claim.  She may also be able to receive additional benefits.  In addition, if her injuries were very severe, she may be able to bring a lawsuit against the driver who caused the accident and receive additional damages.
