SMART Bus Kills a Pedestrian in Detroit

I read a tragic story about how a SMART bus killed a pedestrian in Detroit today. According to the Detroit Police, a Detroit man was in the crosswalk on First Street at Bagley when the SMART bus allegedly hit him as it attempted a left turn onto Bagley. The man was rushed to Receiving Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are still investigating this accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and wish my most heart-felt condolences to the family of the pedestrian for their loss.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of the deceased victim may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident and SMART bus. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, the family of the deceased victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased victims may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused these car accidents as well as SMART bus. At the very least, the surviving family should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Detroit Car Accident Lawyers

A Detroit car accident has left a 9-year old girl in critical condition.  This accident occurred on March 4, 2009 when a car thief ran a stop sign at Redmond and Novara and crashed into her family’s car.  The girl’s 16-year old sister and her mother were also injured.  The thief stole the car from the driveway of a nearby home.

I am very sorry this accident occurred, and I hope everyone in the family is able to pull through.  I also hope the car thief is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Although car accidents are always bad, an accident like this where the whole family is hurt is just terrible.  Fortunately, the family can submit a claim for Michigan No Fault benefits and get all their medical bills paid for.  This will help them deal with what would otherwise be huge medical bills.

In addition, if an accident victim is seriously injured, they can sue the other driver or if that driver cannot be identified, they can file a claim for uninsured motorist insurance.  Uninsured motorist coverage is optional coverage and not required by law.  A Michigan car accident lawyer could help review your insurance coverage and determine if you can file a lawsuit.

Detroit Bus Accident Damages Awarded

I recently read about a Detroit DOT bus accident that occurred earlier this year on January 29, 2008.  The Detroit City Council recently voted to pay $6 Million in damages to the family of Andrea Locke, who was hit and killed by a DDOT bus as she was crossing Lahser Road at Grand River Avenue with her mother.  I hope this award gives closure to the family, as they are doubtlessly still trying to deal with their loss.

When a bus accident occurs, people who are injured in the accident can usually file a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance.  Depending on the severity of their injuries, they may also be able to sue a negligent driver and if the negligent driver is the bus driver, the bus company can probably also be sued.  Since the circumstances of each accident are different and since the injuries in every accident will be different, it is important to speak with a lawyer soon after any accident.
