Sault Pedestrian Killed by a Vehicle

I read tragic story in the paper about a Sault pedestrian Killed by a Vehicle Saturday morning in Sault Ste. Marie. According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s office, Angela Peltier was walking north of the Davitt Street intersection when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man. She was taken to War Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead from her serious injuries. Police are still investigating and are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and wish my most heart-felt condolences to the family of Angela Peltier for their loss.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of Angela Peltier may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, the family of the deceased victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased victims may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused this accident. At the very least, the surviving family should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Michigan Man Killed in Utah Car Accident

I read a tragic story about a Michigan man, Robert Jackson Sr. of Hazel Park, who suffered fatal injuries recently in a Utah car accident. His son, the driver of his vehicle, suffered serious injuries. Police believe that the driver of a pickup truck cut into their lane of traffic and caused the accident. It is still being investigated.

My thoughts and condolences go out to the family. I hope that the son has a speedy and complete recovery for his injuries. It is hard to imagine what the last week has been like for the family.

I was recently at a conference in Washington DC with a fellow car and truck accident lawyer from Salt Lake City, Utah. He described to me the number of accidents that occurred on many of the winding and curvy roads in Utah and the serious injuries related to those accidents. It seems to be a terrrible problem, especially because any detraction from the roadway can have terrible consequences.

The Michigan family does have legal rights related to this accident. A wrongful death lawsuit can be filed against the other driver and a claim would be made against his insurance company. No-fault insurance claims can also be filed for payment of funeral expenses, survivor loss benefits, medical expenses, wage loss benefits, and other claims even though the accident happened in Utah. There may also be other available claims and remedies available to the family.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash

I read a tragic story about a fatal motorcycle accident that took the life of a 48 year old woman, Helen Reeves.  She was riding her bike when a motorist crossed the center lane of the roadway and struck her, killing her instantly.  The driver appears to have been intoxicated and was arrested at the scene of the accident and taken to jail.

This is a tragedy that should have never happened.  My thoughts go out to her family and friends.  I only hope that the court system lays a heavy hand on the driver if the allegations prove to be true.

In my practice, I see instances like this way too often in my motorcycle accident cases.  Although many in the public believe that bikers are at fault in most accidents, I have found the opposite to be true.  It is most often negligent motorists who ignore the rights of bikers and other drivers and cause these catastrophic accidents.  With Summer now here and bikers in mid-season form, I can only hope that drivers become more responsible so accidents like this one do not happen again.
