Detroit Motorcycle Accident Lawyer | Ann Arbor Motorcycle Accident

An Ann Arbor motorcycle accident has left a Detroit man dead and two injured.  Four Detroit motorcyclists were traveling together on southbound U.S. 23 near Ann Arbor when Anthonne Marice Anderson lost control of his motorcycle south of Plymouth Road, causing him and three others to crash.  Mr. Anderson was killed while two of his companions were hospitalized at University of Michigan hospital.

This is a very tragic accident and I am deeply sorry that it occurred.  I want to extend my sympathy to Mr. Anderson’s family and also I want to say I hope that his two injured companions are able to experience a full recovery.

Although this is surely a difficult time for the Anderson family, they should take comfort in knowing that most motorcycle insurance policies would cover an accident like this one.  Life insurance and other policies may also exist to help support the family at this time.  A lawyer could assist them in submitting their claims.   Moreover, the drivers who were not at fault may have a claim against the motorcyclist who was at fault, and the drivers would be best served by consulting with an experienced Michigan motorcycle accident to determine who was at fault and to evaluate whether a lawsuit would be likely to succeed.

Northfield Township Bus Truck Accident Hurts Amish

A Northfield Township bus accident has resulted in minor injuries for at least 14 members of a Mount Pleasant Amish church.  The accident occurred when a tour bus was rear-ended by a semi tractor-trailer on U.S. 23 near Barker Road north of Ann Arbor.  More than 20 people were crammed in the 13-passenger tour bus.  The 14 were taken to the University of Michigan Hospital, but 8 people refused treatment for minor injuries.

This is a pretty alarming tragedy and I am sorry it happened.  Although many people were injured, it sounds like their injuries were relatively minor.  This is very fortunate for a couple of reasons.  First, accidents involving semi-trucks tend to be very bad accidents.  Second, buses are usually not equipped with seatbelts and other safety features now standard in cars.  A bus-truck combination accident has the potential to be a very serious accident but fortunately it sounds like no one was critically injured in this accident.

Everyone involved may have a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance benefits.  As passengers, the Amish may be able to make a claim through the bus driver’s insurance policy.  This will pay for the medical expenses for those who received medical treatment.  In addition, if anyone had been seriously hurt, other benefits would have been available.  Finally, if any of the Amish had been very seriously injured or killed, they would have a claim directly against the negligent driver for damages in excess of what their No Fault benefits would provide.

Ann Arbor Truck Crashes Closes I-94

Two semi truck crashes west of Ann Arbor closed down I-94 for most of Tuesday.  The first crash involved three semis.  A semi truck heading east in Lima Township crossed the grass median and collided with another semi.  This second semi, driven by a man from North Adams, south of Jackson, hit a third semi.  There was an explosion which severely damaged the first two trucks and killed their drivers.  The driver of the third truck was transported to University of Michigan Hospital where he was in stable conditions with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.  I-94 was closed in both directions for the morning rush hour and the eastbound lanes remained closed until after 5 p.m. so police could clear the accident and investigate its causes.  The eastbound lanes were then closed after being open for little more than an hour because of a second accident, which again involved a semi.  No one was injured in this second accident.

This is a horrific tragedy.  I feel nothing but sympathy for the families of the two drivers who were killed.  And I hope the third driver has a full recovery.  It is very fortunate that no one was injured in the second accident.

My law firm handles car accident cases such as this one.  While these tragedies are always extremely difficult to the families, insurance companies usually have little sympathy for the victims of such accidents.  It will be important for the injured driver and the families of the deceased drivers to determine what kind of insurance benefits are available to them and to quickly make a claim for the proper benefits.  They will have to assemble all appropriate documentation within strict time limits or face the prospect of losing benefits.

In an accident like this one, the drivers may have No Fault insurance claims, which would pay for all medical expenses, a portion of lost wages, and a portion of funeral expenses.  The drivers who were not at fault may also have a claim for their injuries against the driver who was at fault.  The best way to determine what claims are available to you if you have been in an accident is to consult with an experienced lawyer.

As part of any Michigan Motorcycle accident case or any Michigan auto insurance claim, it is necessary to obtain the police traffic accident report.  Our firm routinely obtains these for our clients who have been injured in an auto accident.

These are available to you by simply contacting the police agency and requesting the report.  There is usually a small fee for the report.  For an accident that occurred in Ann Arbor, you should request the traffic crash report at the following location:

Ann Arbor Biker Killed in Milwaukee Motorcycle Accident

A tragic story about an Ann Arbor biker who was killed in a motorcycle accident in Milwaukee last weekend appeared in the news.  Michael Fleming, a 55 year old biker from Ann Arbor, had traveled with some buddies to Milwaukee on their Harleys to participate in a huge event celebrating Harley-Davidsons 105th anniversary.  Police report that a 61 year old woman made a wide turn, struck a curb, and then struck Mr. Fleming’s motorcycle.  Police then arrested her on suspicion of drunk driving.

My sympathies go out to Mr. Fleming’s family, friends, and colleagues.  One could only imagine how this tragedy has impacted all of them now and when it actually “sinks in.”  His fellow bikers are certainly also grieving his loss.

This summer has been a bad summer for motorcycle accidents.  It seems as though fatal motorcycle accidents are being reported with much more frequency these days and most accidents are caused by negligent motorists, not the bikers.  Unfortunately, the injuries in these accidents are frequenlty catastrophic and fatal.

My firm represents a number of injured motorcyclists and their families in motorcycle accident cases.  Quite often, the injured biker is entitled to receive Michigan no-fault insurance benefits even if he did not have a no-fault insurance policy on the motorcycle accident.  These laws are very complex and the insurance companies do not have to tell the biker the benefits that he can claim.  This is the reason it is so important to get an attorney involved as soon as possible.  I

n many circumstances, the injured biker can sue the other driver for his injuries and suffering and the family of a biker killed in an accident can file a wrongful death lawsuit.  There are strict time limitations for filing these claims and the failure to act quickly can actually destroy a good claim, another reason why an experienced motorcycle accident attorney should be retained immediately after an accident.
