Grand Rapids Pedestrian Accident | Grand Rapids Car Accident Lawyers

A Grand Rapids car accident has left a young boy injured.  A 12-year old student was hit by a car as he was crossing the street at the intersection of Vernon and Mt. Mercy NW.  His injuries are not life-threatening and police are investigating who is at fault in the accident.

Although I am very sorry this accident occurred, I am glad that the boy’s injuries are not more serious.  The car accident lawyers at my law firm have represented children in similar accidents and the kids frequently suffer very serious injuries.  I do hope that this child will be able to experience a full recovery.

The Michigan No Fault Act limits accident victim’s right to sue the driver.  Accident victims can only sue in limited circumstances, such as when there has been a death or when the injuries are very serious.  In exchange, No Fault insurance provides certain basic guarantees regardless of fault.  This means that the child can receive No Fault insurance benefits even though there has not yet been a determination of fault and can continue to receive them even if the determination is that he was at fault.  The primary benefit this family will likely receive from their No Fault insurance is that this child’s medical expenses will be paid for, but they should speak with a lawyer to determine if they are eligible for additional benefits, which depending on the severity of the boy’s injuries, is certainly possible.
