Detroit Bus Accident Damages Awarded
I recently read about a Detroit DOT bus accident that occurred earlier this year on January 29, 2008. The Detroit City Council recently voted to pay $6 Million in damages to the family of Andrea Locke, who was hit and killed by a DDOT bus as she was crossing Lahser Road at Grand River Avenue with her mother. I hope this award gives closure to the family, as they are doubtlessly still trying to deal with their loss.
When a bus accident occurs, people who are injured in the accident can usually file a claim for Michigan No Fault insurance. Depending on the severity of their injuries, they may also be able to sue a negligent driver and if the negligent driver is the bus driver, the bus company can probably also be sued. Since the circumstances of each accident are different and since the injuries in every accident will be different, it is important to speak with a lawyer soon after any accident.
