Fatal I-75 Multiple Vehicle Accident

There was a tragic story on the radio about an Fatal I-75 Multiple Vehicle Car Accident that happened in Monroe County this morning. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 64-year-old Wyandotte man allegedly lost control of his SUV while driving on I-75 near north Dixie Highway and was broadsided by a motorhome. The wife of the SUV driver was a passenger and died of her injuries. The passengers in the motorhome sought treatment on their own for their injuries. Police are still investigating the accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and offer the family of the deceased passenger my most sincere condolences and best wishes. I hope that the other injured parties have a complete recovery without any permanent deficits.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, any injured parties can submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits.  No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.  The injured parties can claim these benefits even if they did not have a Michigan automobile insurance policy.

Additionally, for this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of the deceased woman may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, any injured parties and the family of the deceased victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased pedestrian may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused this accident. At the very least, the surviving family should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Brighton Township Crash Fatalities

A tragic fatal car  accident in Brighton Township took the lives of three young men and caused serious injuries to a fourth.   The accident occurred on Hacker Road just north of McClements Road early Monday morning.  Police discovered this tragic single car accident and are still investigating.

My sincerest condolences go out to all of the families.  I hope that the surviving passenger has a quick and full recovery.

Under the Michigan No-Fault Insurance laws, the surviving passenger can have all of his medical expenses paid by the designated auto insurance company.  To determine which company is responsible for these and other benefits, it is necessary to go through a checklist to figure out which insurance company has priority for payment.  These benefits include more than medical bills and can be substantial.  There are time requirements for filing these claims so it is important to start on them right away.

There are a variety of other possible claims and lawsuits available to the surviving family members.  These include No-Fault Insurance benefits and possible claims under the Michigan Wrongful Death Statute.

Van Buren Township Motorcycle Accident

I read a tragic story about a Harford Township motorcycle accident that resulted in the death of the biker and serious injuries to his passenger.  A 31 year old motorcyclist had an 11 year old passenger on his motorcycle and apparently lost control of the bike.  The driver suffered fatal injuries and the passenger suffered serious injuries.

My thoughts go out to the family of the deceased biker and I hope for a speedy recovery for the young passenger.  There were apparently no other vehicles involved in this accident and police are still investigating.

The injured passenger may be entitled to Michigan No-Fault Insurance benefits to pay his medical expenses, attendant care expenses, and other expenses related to the accident.  An experienced attorney should be consulted by his family on this issue, as well as looking into any and all other possible legal claims.

Michigan Car Accident Fatalitieis Decrease in 2008

The number of Michigan car accident fatalities decreased significantly in 2008.  According to numbers released by the Office of Highway Safety Planning, the number of people killed in traffic accidents in Michigan fell by 10% from 2007 to 2008.  The office attributes this decline to higher gas prices, which caused people to drive less.  The decline in traffic deaths was highest in the summer months, which corresponds to the time of year with the most traffic accidents and to the time of year with the highest gas prices.

The decrease in traffic deaths was accompanied by a decrease in the number of traffic accidents overall and accidents involving personal injury and property damage.  Other factors contributing to the decrease in accidents include:

  • High rate of seat belt use
  • Traffic engineering and road design
  • Advances in vehicle safety features
  • Improvements in emergency medicine

Although the number of traffic deaths overall fell by a significant margin, the number of motorcycle accident deaths and the number of bicycle accidents rose overall.  On a brighter note, the number of teenagers involved in accidents fell by almost one-fourth.
