Fatal Belleville Drunk-Driving Rollover Accident

I read a tragic story in the paper this morning about a fatal Belleville drunk-driving rollover accident that occurred in the early morning hours today in Van Buren Township on I-94. According to police, a westbound Jeep Liberty, with a driver and three passengers, veered off I-94 and flipped multiple times near the rest stop between Bellville Road and Rawsonville Road. Three of the car’s occupants were thrown from the vehicle. One passenger died and the others were taken to a local hospital. Police are still investigating this accident and believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and offer the family of the deceased passenger my most sincere condolences and best wishes. I hope that the other injured parties have a complete recovery without any permanent deficits.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, any injured parties can submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits.  No-Fault benefits will cover their medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.  The injured parties can claim these benefits even if they did not have a Michigan automobile insurance policy.

Additionally, for this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of the deceased passenger may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, any injured parties and the family of the deceased victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased passenger may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused this accident.

Another possible claim for anyone injured by the alleged drunk driver would be a potential Michigan dram shop case against the seller or furnisher of the  alcohol before the accident.

At the very least, the surviving family and injured parties should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victim with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

There was a tragic story in the news today about Royal Oak Multiple Hit & Run Accidents Fatality. A drunk driver, in a Chevy Silverado, was allegedly involved in two hit and run accidents in matter of 10 minutes, according to Michigan State Police. Fatal Motorcycle Crash

I read a tragic story about a fatal motorcycle accident that took the life of a 48 year old woman, Helen Reeves.  She was riding her bike when a motorist crossed the center lane of the roadway and struck her, killing her instantly.  The driver appears to have been intoxicated and was arrested at the scene of the accident and taken to jail.

This is a tragedy that should have never happened.  My thoughts go out to her family and friends.  I only hope that the court system lays a heavy hand on the driver if the allegations prove to be true.

In my practice, I see instances like this way too often in my motorcycle accident cases.  Although many in the public believe that bikers are at fault in most accidents, I have found the opposite to be true.  It is most often negligent motorists who ignore the rights of bikers and other drivers and cause these catastrophic accidents.  With Summer now here and bikers in mid-season form, I can only hope that drivers become more responsible so accidents like this one do not happen again.
