Fatal Car Accident in Jackson Kills Driver

Ryan Lennox died in a fatal Jackson car accident on January 31st from crashing into the bridge before crossing Grand River on Monroe St.  According to police, Lennox lost control of his car. Speed is a likely factor, however, investigators do not know what caused the accident.

Excessive speed is a factor in one third of all fatal crashes according to Smartmotorist.com. Young drivers are more likely to speed than other drivers. Of all drivers involved in fatal crashes, young males are most likely to speed. In fact, the relative proportion of speeding-related fatal crashes decreases with increasing driver age.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident. My condolences go out to the family of the victim. (more…)

Michigan Car Accident Lawyers Discuss How Seat Belts Prevent Child Injuries

Our Michigan car accident lawyers want to bring to attention the risks of not using seat belts properly in a motor vehicle. Using a booster seat lessens the risk of  injury by 50 percent in an auto accident. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, parents are encouraged to use a belt-positioning booster seat until a child reaches 57 inches, the height at which proper fit in an adult seat belt is expected.

Research has proven the effectiveness of child safety seats. Some of these statistics include:

  • Fatal injury was reduced by 71%  for infants younger that 1 year of age
  • Fatal injury was reduced by 54% for toddlers ages 1-4
  • Children ages 2-6 years old in child safety seats are approximately 28% less likely to receive a fatal injury
  • 284 out of 309 lives were saved in 2009 due to safety seats among children under age 5 in passenger vehicles

Not taking the proper precautions could be the difference between life and death. “Wearing a poorly positioned belt puts children at greater risk of injuries to abdominal organs, spine bones, and the spine itself,” says Michelle Macy, a pediatrician at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.

We highly advise parents to always use a booster seat for your child at all times while driving a vehicle.  Statistics prove how imperative the booster seat is to the safety of your child.  Take a few extra minutes to belt in your children properly. Michigan Car Accident Lawyers Offer Safety Advice For Eliminating Blind Spots

Our Michigan car accident lawyers understand the dangers of blind spots as many auto accidents occur due to the fact that a driver did not see another vehicle, in other words, their “blind spot.” With a few simple adjustments blind spots can be eliminated or at least minimized. Here a few tips to help elimate blind spots:

  • Learn your head over until it almost touches the driver’s window, and then position the side mirror on the car’s left side so you can just see the rear quarterpannel (the rear of the car) in the mirror.
  • Lean your head to the right to align it with the center of the car
  • Adjust the center rearview mirror to place it facing the center of the rear window
  • While driving notice that a car passing you begins in the center of your rear view mirror. As it approaches you, it moves to the side of your center rear view mirror, and at the same time appears in your side mirror.
  • Also notice that your side mirrors now capture a tremendous additional amount of information about what is in the lanes immediately next to your car. Previously you would have to turn your head to ensure no car was in the lanes beside your car before changing lanes.

These changes can eliminate a significant amount of accidents on the road. Saving a life is always worth the effort in changing safety procedures.
