A single-car Burton car accident has seriously injured a 26-year old Flint man.  Jason Markley crashed his vehicle into trees and a utility pole at Covert and Davison Roads on October 28, 2008.  He was reported in serious condition at Hurley Medical Center following the accident.

A Bridgeport Township car accident has resulted in the death of a Saginaw Township pedestrian.  The accident occurred on Williamson west of Squire on October 28, 2008.  The driver stopped and reported the accident and assisted the police.

A Fremont car accident has injured a pedestrian.  The accident occurred in the area of Main Street and South Stone Road on October 28, 2008.  The accident is still under investigation.

Two Battle Creek women were injured when a car crashed into a house in Pennfield Township.  The car veered off Pennfield Road and ran into the house at about 5:30 on October 27, 2008.  Both the 61-year old driver and her 28-year old passenger were hospitalized for their injuries.  No one was in the house at the time of the crash.  It is not clear what caused the accident.

I am very sorry this accident occurred, and I hope both of the women injured are able to recover completely.

Even though this accident did not involve several cars hitting each other and in fact did not even occur on a road, Michigan No Fault insurance benefits are still available to the driver and the passenger who were injured.  These benefits will cover all medical expenses and a portion of lost wages and may cover other expenses as well.  In addition, the passenger can probably sue the driver if her injuries are severe and she may be able to collect additional damages in that lawsuit.

Medical Mileage Benefits are one of the benefits that are available to injured drivers in Michigan through their No Fault insurance policy.  No Fault insurance benefits are available when a person has been injured in an accident involving a car, truck, SUV, or other motor vehicle.  Medical mileage is a very important benefit, but, too often, people who have been injured in car accidents fail to claim it because they do not know it is available or because they do not understand how it works.

Medical mileage benefits are payments that reimburse accident victims for mileage expenses to and from their medical appointments.  The exact amount is not set.  Instead the payment is reimbursement for a reasonable rate per mile.  Because the rate is computed on a “per mile” basis, the insurance company requires accident victims to record the date of their appointments, the name and address of the doctor, clinic, or hospital, and the distance to and from their home in miles.  This is so the insurance company can verify the medical mileage benefit is actually being used to pay for trips to and from a medical appointment.
